Peppermint Bark Recipe
Peppermint bark, also known as candy cane bark, is a traditional holiday treat. Homemade goodies from the kitchen are such a treat, and this is one of the simplest to make. Peppermint bark can be made with only 2 or 3 ingredients, depending on which variation you make. It's a great last minute dessert to make for the arrival of unexpected guests, holiday parties, hostess gifts and for homemade Christmas gifts for family, friends and neighbors. For gifts, simply place the peppermint bark in a tin can lined with foil or tissue paper and top it off with a bow. Here you will find recipes for 3 variations for making peppermint bark.
How To Make Peppermint Bark
Chocolate Peppermint Bark:
- Line a backing sheet with parchment paper or foil.
- Crush some candy canes and set them aside. The best way to crush candy canes is to put them in a plastic baggie and smash them with a hammer.
- Melt chocolate chips in a saucepan or in the microwave.
- Pour the melted chocolate onto the lined baking sheet. Spread it out but not too much. You are going to be breaking the chocolate into pieces after it hardens so don't spread it too thick or too thin.
- Sprinkle with crushed pieces of candy canes.
- Place in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from the freezer and break into pieces.
White Chocolate Peppermint Bark:
- Replace the melted chocolate with melted white chocolate
Chocolate and white chocolate bark:
- After you pour the melted chocolate and spread it onto the lined baking sheet, drizzle some melted white chocolate over it.
- With a butter knife, spread the white chocolate around in a swirl like motion to mix it in with the darker chocolate.
- Sprinkle crushed pieces of candy canes over the top of the chocolate.
- Place in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from the freezer and break into pieces
- If you want more of the white chocolate than the milk chocolate, simply spread the melted white chocolate onto the lined baking sheet first and then drizzle the milk chocolate over it.
- Make 2 layers of chocolate. Add one layer of milk chocolate and then cover with a second layer of white chocolate.
- If you want the candy canes coated with chocolate too, sprinkle the candy canes on and then drizzle the melted chocolate over them.
- For dark chocolate peppermint bark, use melted dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.
